The Eagles make the list of NFL’s most talented teams

As reported by NFL Media Analysis Bucky Brooks, The Eagles are among NFL’s most talented teams.

9) Philadelphia Eagles

Blue chips (7): OLB Connor Barwin, DE Fletcher Cox, RT Lane Johnson, C Jason Kelce, OG Evan Mathis, RB DeMarco Murray, LT Jason Peters.

On the rise: LB Kiko Alonso, CB Byron Maxwell, K Cody Parkey.

Chip Kelly has ruffled some feathers with his bold personnel moves, but skeptics can’t question the depth of talent on the Eagles’ roster. The offense will place the NFL’s reigning rushing king (Murray) behind one of the most talented O-lines in football. The melding of a one-cut runner and a group of blue-chip blockers (Peters, Mathis, Kelce and Johnson — who’s still a bit raw, but I’m willing to bet on his athleticism and potential) should produce fireworks in the Eagles’ zone-read system. On defense, Cox and Barwin are disruptive playmakers capable of wreaking havoc at the point of attack. Their ability to create pressure could allow Maxwell to flourish as a CB1 in a new defense. And if Alonso can get back to his rookie form after a season lost to injury, Philly fans will quickly learn to love the athletic linebacker. Parkey led the NFC in scoring as a rookie.

“On the rise” – Your short breakdown:

LB Kiko Alonso – Drafted on April 26, 2013 by the Buffalo Bills in the second round (46th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Alonso signed a four-year contract on May 13, 2013. On March 10, 2015, the Bills traded Alonso to the Eagles for LeSean McCoy.

CB Bryon Maxwell – 173rd overall pick in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. In 2014, Maxwell played in 13 games, missing three weeks with a strained calf. He had 39 tackles, 2 interceptions, 12 passes defended. In Super Bowl XLIX, Maxwell had 5 tackles, but the Seahawks lost 28-24 to the Patriots-GASP! On March 14, 2015, Maxwell signed a six-year, $63 million contract with the Eagles.

K Cody Parkey – Undrafted in 2014 draft. Parkey signed with the Colts in 2014. On August 20, 2014, He was traded to the Eagles for David Fluellen. Parkey recorded 32 FGM/36 FGA – 88.9% last season.
