The trade rumors on Cole Hamels are sky rocketing. Hamels had a news conference Saturday afternoon in Clearwater, Florida.
“You can’t count us out. We do have a lot of guys who like to go out and compete at the highest level and expect to do so and expect their teammates to do so.”
Hamels commented to USA Today earlier this week about wanting to be traded from a “continuation of a conversation from January.”
“I’m a Phillie”, said Hamels.
Hamels signed a 6 years/$144M contract back in 2012. He will earn $22.5M each season for next 4 seasons with a 2019 option for $20M club option ($6M buy out). The option guaranteed if Hamels has 400 IP in 2017-18 (including 200 IP in 2018) and is not on the DL with shoulder or elbow injury at the end of the 2018 season. The deal includes $6 million signing bonus.
